Ashlí Miréla
In 2012, Ashlí discovered yoga after going 'raw vegan' for a year, and realised that food and yoga were medicine.

She healed her ailments through yoga and diet & changed careers by going back to university as a mature aged student to study nutritional science and has a degree in Complementary Medicine.

She has YTTC 500 in Ashtanga, Yin, Vinyasa, Hatha & Chair yoga and is a member of Yoga Alliance, accorded E-RYT 200 and YACEP (Yoga Alliance certified Continuing Education Provider).

Ashlí has also been selected by the Ayuntamiento de Vera to provide Chair Yoga for the San Cleofas Seniors Centre and also to provide Yoga on the beach for Vera´s "Winter Beaches" program

With a focus on the ageing body and understanding the challenges growing older brings with it, her style focuses on proper breathing, precise alignment of postures and being present in the moment.

Without meaning to sound like a cliché, yoga changed my life. It made such an impact on me that I ditched my 30 year career of media, marketing & publishing, went to Bali, studied yoga and went back to university.

After attaining a degree in Complementary Medicine and more yoga certifications, Darío & I opened a yoga, health & wellness centre in a town in Spain.

My main focus is the ageing body (as we are all ageing) and adapting yoga to the ever changing body, as each decade has quite specific needs. Yoga is for everybody, but not every body is for yoga, and we get it, which is why, we ensure that every bod(ies) journey is their own and not some cookie cutter ‘one size fits all’.

With my background in medicine (I am also qualified as a nurse) and through my understanding of the ever changing body, (having recovered from injuries though Yoga), I realised that adaptation is the key, and in our centre we focus on adapting classes, postures and styles to suit our clients, as they age or as they recover from injury or illness.

The focus is on the breath, the gradual development of asanas and precise alignment of the body in the postures. Great attention is placed on being conciously aware of your position in the space and clients are encouraged to close their eyes in order to experience spatial awareness and to truly connect to themselves. Its almost impossible to balance in tree pose while thinking of your ‘to do’ list.

Encouragement and a safe space is what we are about and VaVa yoga is a welcoming place to relax, feel at home and escape from the drama & busy-ness that makes up our daily lives. It’s a place to breathe and surrender to and a mini oasis in the middle of a chaos storm that is often associated with the daily challenges of managing a home, caring for a family and running a business or working, which describes most of our clients.
